Solo walk in the back veg garden

Work & Observations

Let Reba out and decided to walk the garden.

The extra Ocimum basilicum (Basil) in the Allium porrum (leek) bed, the Ipomoea batatas (sweet potatoes), and the one Capsicum annuum 'Pimento' all have frost damage. We shall have to see what the O. basilicum and C. annuum do in the spring.

The Beta vulgaris 'Detroit Red' also seem to have a bit of wilt from the frost but still good, however the soil in the Daucus carota subsp. Sativus (Carrot) bed is starting to freeze. I will need to keep an eye on both as the tap roots for them should have started to fatten up by now yet I see nothing.

The box for the Solanum tuberosum 'Russet Burbank' are completely infested with Solenopsis invicta. I really need to get pesticide on the colonies around the house ASAP.

Everything else seems to be doing well right now, tough I won't take the cold covers off the Pisum sativum var. saccharatum (Snow Peas) and the Tea and Herb garden until the weather at night gets above freezing. I will likely feed everything when I do take the covers off.

Lastly, there was a tiny little Thryothorus ludovicianus (Carolina Wren) in the garden when I first went to let out Reba. I noticed it quick enough to snap a few photos from the back door before we scared it off. They aren't great photos but were good enough to identify it with and get an idea of how tiny it was.

Personal Thoughts, Sketches, and Photos

I have to keep in mind this is my first attempt at fall/winter gardening and a lot of things went in the ground late. If nothing makes it, that is okay. We at least learn a leasson for next year.
