If you've taken a gander at any media I've put out lately, the last article was posted in 2020, the last video was posted in 2022, and aside from a couple of one-off Instagram posts, the last regularly posted photo that I posted went up almost a year ago. What happened with Wonder Bound and where have we been?
Well, there is a very long story behind that which, honestly, I don't feel compelled to post all over the internet in fine detail. That said, if you've ever watched any of the On the Trail vlogs on the YouTube channel, you'll know that life from time to time has found ways to gum up the works and put things into hiatus status for me.
It would be super easy to just chalk it up to that this time is just the same thing. Life got in the way and things went on hiatus. After all, this is just a hobby for me. The thing is, it's not that simple. Drastic changes have occurred to this site, the channel, and my photos. People that were relatively new around the time of my last post have become more prominent, and others that played a big role in things are suddenly gone. Several videos and posts have also been removed. It would be difficult to just say "Hiatus happened" and not have a bunch of questions to answer. While nothing is saying I should answer those questions, I'd much rather answer them as best I could while putting the minimum amount of information out there to avoid the rumor mill winding up. Especially because this blog is how I keep my friends and family up to date when I'm traveling.
What happened, with Wonder Bound? Most folks know that Raven and I were living a polyamorous lifestyle. Shortly after moving in 2020, Raven started to explore a more romantic route with a long-time long-distance friend. Same time I met Holly and while things were casual at first, they took a more serious turn the more time we spent together. In early 2022, Raven and I decided to move out of our apartment, buy a house, and move Holly, Raven, and me in. Raven's long-distance partner was also planning to move back to the east coast and join us in this endeavor.
Sadly, this was not to be. Some cracks had developed in the surface between Raven and me. Most of them were the result of unresolved issues from earlier in our relationship. By last summer, the two of us had concluded that a romantic relationship may no longer be in the cards for us. This became a reality when Raven decided to pursue a more exclusive relationship with her other partner. Honestly, a whole separate, article will probably be written about this from the polyamorous and Ethical Non-monogamy point of view.
With Raven making this decision, a lot of changes needed to be made. How would the house be handled? Who would be moving in? What about the channel and traveling? Along with all this, after almost 7 years together, Raven's and my life had become quite entangled. Finances, property, and the like, separating these things on their own took a lot. Combine that with the emotional fallout, moving into the new house, and work upheavals all just took up the most valuable commodity needed to make Wonder Bound successful: Time.
Picking Wonder Bound back up, Raven has stepped away, Holly has started to dip her toes in the water on providing more of a support and occasionally on-camera role, and for the most part, things have become largely a solo operation for me. To be honest, though, this isn't necessarily for the worse. I get to take everything in a direction more in line with what I had originally planned.
Spinning things back up will likely take some time, but going through all of what the last three years threw at me did a lot to develop where I wanted to shift things, get some good ideas for content, and have a better plan to get it all done. What to expect from here should be a few slow posts to finish uploading some of the backlogged items that have been on my plate since 2020. From here, further changes and development of the web page, such as the addition of Spotify playlists and a Duck tracker, the publishing of new content by the start of the summer, and with any luck getting the Patreon page up and running.
With that, thanks for sticking with things and supporting everything Wonder Bound is hoping to achieve, and as always, get out there and keep exploring.
